Participates in Masonry Expo: Design/Build Team Takes 2nd Place
Winchester, VA (April 15, 2008), Frederick Block, Brick & Stone
(FBBS), recently participated in the Masonry Institute’s Masonry
Expo 2008 in Chantilly, VA. FBBS is a member of the Masonry Institute.
The
Masonry Expo was centered around “It Makes A Village” (IMAV),
a Design/Build Competition where architects and masons teamed up
to design and build a project that could be found in a village. Seven
teams competed in the two-day competition. FBBS sponsored two of
the Design/Build Teams with one Team taking 2nd place
honors with
their design, “A
Viewing Fountain” (shown above).
The
2nd place team consisted of architect, R.
Hunter Hurt Architecture, Winchester, VA, and mason, Kent Deeben,
Deeben Enterprises Ltd., Leesburg, VA (Team
Members, left to right, Hunter Hurt, Kent Deeben, Zach Deeben, Art Johnson,
Alex Garrett, Hugo Chavez. Not Pictured: Josh Deeben, Dave Jenkins). IMAV
projects were judged on the following criteria: Uniqueness, Best
Use of Materials, Adherence to Architectural Plan, Creative Use of
Materials, and Craftsmanship. The Team donated their 2nd place prize
winnings to the Monroe Vo-Tech in Leesburg.
FBBS
also sponsored the Design/Build team of Main Street Architects, Berryville,
VA, and JD Long Masonry, Newington, VA. Stephen C. Slaughter, Vice-President
of Frederick Block, Brick & Stone said, “Both
teams (FBBS sponsored) had an excellent showing in this inaugural
year of the Design/Build competition. We are very proud of the high-caliber
talent in this area. The teams demonstrated great workmanship, enthusiasm,
and attention-to-detail.”
